Studies on the Wild Akebia quinata for Landscape Use

Abstract
Akebia quinata grown over the southern part of Korean penninsula is regarded as a valuable landscape meterials. The present study was carried out to investigate the morphological and ecological characteristics, environments in the habitat, vegetation association and propagation of A. quinata.
The results are as follows:
1. Shoot grows up to 140§¯ a year and its growth begins in the mid April and finishes early July. The length of fruit was 7.5§¯ and soluble solids was 20.2¡£Bx.
2. A. quinata is also available in the Kangweon province, and the elevation of the habitat was 160 to 300m and direction was north to north-west. Its vegetation coverage was 85-100% and soil pH was neutral.
3. The majority of indicator species associated with A. quinata in the habitat was Clematis apiifolia, Spiraea prunifolia and Hemiptelea daridii. The community of its habitat consisted of 54 families, 81 genera. 93 species, 11 varieties.
4. The treatment of IBA, NAA, GA on cutting increased rooting significantly compared with control and the GA 1000§·/§¤ was best in rooting percentage. In cutting experiment with some media, vermiculite and its combination was better media than peatmoss or perlite for rooting.
5. The best seed germination percentage was 20¡É in 20¡30¡É range and the dried seed did not germinate at all. Treatment of GA and thiourea in dark condition increased seed germination compared with control.
